Although there are no public transport services in Vatican City, there are many affordable options for getting to the entrance from Rome.

Metro Accessibility

Bus Services

  • Bus lines 64 and 40 are great ways to get to the Museum from Roma Termini.
  • You can also take bus lines 116, 46, 62, 70, 81, 87, 492, and 982 to get to the museum within walking distance.

Getting to the Museum

Rules
  • Before entering the museum, you must pass through airport-style metal detectors at the security level.
  • The museum does not allow big bags, sharp objects, one-fold umbrellas, and weapons. You can leave the bags behind in the cloakroom.
  • You can take photos inside the Museum without using a camera flash. However, photography and video recording are not allowed in the Sistine Chapel.

Insider Tips

  • The shortcut to St Peter’s Basilica from the Sistine Chapel is only accessible if you are on a guided tour. Visitors with standard entry tickets cannot use the shortcut.

  • All museum rooms do not have air conditioning, so ensure that you wear light, breathable cotton clothes.
  • Visitors who take the shortcut to get to the Basilica from the Sistine Chapel might miss out on seeing the famous Bramante staircase since it is the last spot on the list.
